How to Link My Custom Domain to Blogger

by Jason Artman, Demand Media
If you have registered your own custom domain name but would rather use a free blog hosting service, then open an account with a Web hosting company and you can link your domain with your blog on Google's free Blogger service. By linking your domain name to your Blogger account, visitors can read your blog by typing your domain name rather than (account name).blogger.com. This is not only convenient, but it also adds a touch of professionalism to your free blog.

Step 1

Navigate to Blogger.com in your Web browser. Enter your Google account email address and password to proceed if prompted. The Blogger dashboard displays the names of all of your blogs.

Step 2

Click the "Settings" link next to the name of the blog that you want to link to your custom domain.

Step 3

Click the "Publishing" link at the top of the page. This brings you to a new page with the bold text "You're publishing on blogspot.com" at the top.

Step 4

Click the "Custom Domain" link.

Step 5

Click "Switch to advanced settings" on the right side of the page.

Step 6

Click the field next to "Your Domain." Type your domain name, such as "www.myblog.net."

Step 7

Click the field under "Word Verification," and type the letters displayed in the image above.

Step 8

Click the orange "Save Settings" button.

Step 9

Log in to your domain name registrar's website and adjust the DNS settings to point your domain to Blogger's servers. Create a new CNAME record with the name "www" and the value "ghs.google.com." Additionally, create four A records with the values "216.239.32.21," "216.239.34.21," "216.239.36.21" and "216.239.38.21." There are many different domain registrars; consult your registrar's help files for specific instructions on how to adjust your domain's DNS settings.
